BDE — Bour Design Engineering — was founded in 2018 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, in the watchmaking valley of the Swiss Jura.
We design products and build them in the same building. The discipline runs both ways: the workshop teaches the design floor what's possible; the design floor pushes the workshop a millimetre further every project.
We work for clients on contract design and engineering, and we publish a small line of in-house objects in stainless steel under our own name.
Four rules.
One material, said well.
If a piece doesn't have a reason to mix metals, it doesn't.
Drawings, not slides.
Decisions live on a 2D drawing with tolerances. Everything else is conversation.
Local before fast.
Every supplier we use, we've visited. The longest one is 90 minutes by train.
Shipped beats perfect.
Version one ships. Version two corrects. Version three is what was promised.
